THAI Reinforces Confidence in New Brussels-Bangkok Route

Suvarnabhumi Airport on November 20th, 2011

Thai Airways International Public Company Limited is now serving the route Bangkok-Brussels-Bangkok, reinforcing tourist confidence in Bangkok as a leading world travel destination.

Mr. Piyasvasti Amranand, THAI President, said that THAI has begun serving the route Bangkok-Brussels-Bangkok at the start of its Winter Program, in order to meet rising passenger demand for travel from Europe to Thailand that increases particularly during Europe’s winter season.  THAI’s service to and from Bangkok-Brussels also makes travel more convenient within the European Union.  In addition, THAI as the national carrier of Thailand aids in the efforts to rejuvinate the country following the national flood disaster, especially revival of travel, tourism, and transport.  Several countries that issued travel advisories concerning travel to Thailand have lifted these warnings.  Water levels have receded in several areas in Bangkok and provinces have dried out.

Furthermore, Mr. Amranand said that tourists were informed that Thailand’s popular tourist destinations, such as Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phuket, and Krabi have not been effected.  Passengers are able to connect THAI flights to these destinations at Suvarnabhumi Airport as normal.  THAI informed passengers in advance, instead of waiting for flood levels to completely dry out, so that passengers may make travel plans for this winter season.  THAI is boosting passenger confidence in travel to Thailand through its offices worldwide, with the support of Royal Thai Embassies and overseas offices of the Tourism Authority of Thailand offices at destinations that THAI serves.

Brussels is the capital of Belgium and THAI’s 72nd destination.  THAI’s first flight from Bangkok to Brussels TG934 departed from Bangkok at 00.30 hours on 17 November 2011, whereas the flight flight to leave from Brussels to Bangkok TG935 departed from Brussels at 13.30 hours on 17 November 2011 and arrived in Bangkok today (18 November 2011) at 06.20 hours.  THAI’s new service to and from Brussels was well received by Europeans in nearby countries.  The cabin factor for first flight TG935 from Brussels to Bangkok was 91%.

THAI was honored to have the following guests on board its inaugural flight:  H.E. Mr. Apichart Chinwanno, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Head of Mission of Thailand to the European Communities; H.E. Mr. Rudi Veestraeten, Ambassador of Belgium to Thailand, representive for Belgium tourism and media; and Ms. Justine Dejonckheere, Miss Belgium 2011 and 20 contestants of next year’s Miss Belgium beauty pageant 2012 who will travel to Chiang Mai. Miss Araya Suparieark, Miss Thailand World 2011 first runner-up, was on hand to welcome the group at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Flight TG934 from Bangkok departs three times per week – on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 00.30 hours, arriving in Brussels at 07.00 hours the same morning.  Flight TG935 from Brussels will depart the same days at 13.30 hours, arriving in Bangkok at 06.20 hours the following day.  Flight reservations have been available for booking since 1 July 2011.  The Boeing 777-200ER aircraft utilized on this route is configured for 30 seats in Royal Silk Class and 262 seats in Economy Class, with all 292 seats equipped with personal screen and the latest in-flight entertainment system.
