Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) expects its 20 New Year’s Eve countdown activities in 17 provinces will generate 20 billion baht of revenue, with 4 million domestic tourists attending.

Key destinations include Bangkok, Udon Thani, Chiang Rai, Samut Prakan, Phuket and Chumphon. Bangkok will have activities at CentralWorld, Parc Paragon at Siam Paragon, Khao San Road, and the Rattanakosin Island area.

This year TAT started research about top destinations for New Year travel to develop a database for marketing next year. Among 2,300 respondents in Bangkok, 40% of them chose Chiang Mai as their travel destination because of the cooler weather and tourism activities there such as the second Royal Flora Ratchaphruek, said Morakot Suddee, director of the event planning division.
